One of the reasons why I thought the MinkLife movement was important was because I am raising a daughter. I wanted her to live a better life than I and I wanted to pass on the legacy that started with my grandmother. Never live your life in vain. Every story, every mistake, every success is for nothing if it has no purpose. I heard my mother say those same words. These two women lived these words very differently.
My Grandmother runs a neighborhood drop-in center that aides low income and impoverished people through donation, distribution and advocacy. She use her struggles raising 7 children as a single parent to help others who were in need of help. Her life was not in vain.
My mother published a book of poetry that discussed abandonment, domestic violence racism and other issuses that she encountered. All that she went through is not in vain. She would perform her poetry and so many women would thank her for sharing because it helped them get the strength to make changes in their own lives.
I am their legacy, their lives were not in vain because I am here. Their lives have inspired me to share my experiences, knowledge and strength to raise my daughter to be a better human and hopefully to inspire you to live your best life. Your MinkLife.
